Sunguard 100% Acrylic Paints

Sunguard Range

DESCRIPTION

Sunguard 100% pure acrylic paints are available from a selection of Low Lustre, Semigloss and Gloss, providing a tough, flexible finish, which gives long life protection in our harsh Australian climate. Conforming to specification AS 3730 (parts 8,9 and 10 – Guide to the properties of Paints for Buildings) these paints have been formulated with a balanced selection of proven UV filtering pigments and binders, as well as using the latest low spatter technology to give clean application properties. The products are suitable for exterior and interior use to beautify most surfaces, giving high coverage, non-yellowing, maximum ultra violet light protection and having premium mould preventatives present to aid in the prevention of unsightly mould and mildew, particularly in tropical climates.

SUITABLE PAINTING SURFACES

Timber, masonry, bricks, concrete, fibro, gyprock, building boards, cement, metal, galvanised iron and zincalume. No primer or undercoat is required on most surfaces, except for bare steel, galvanised iron, zincalume and new timber containing tannin-rich deposits capable of staining the new finishes (particular care should be taken when using pale colours).

GENERAL DATA

Gloss Selection Guide (when viewing at 60º angle to surface)
Sunguard Low Lustre 5 – 10%
Sunguard Semi Gloss 25 – 30 %
Sunguard Gloss 80 – 85 %

Colour: A full range of colours from an extensive range of white, tintable bases and trim colours.

Application: Stir well with a broad paddle. Brush, roller or spray. Provide adequate ventilation. Temperature should be above 10ºC. Early exposure to steam, overnight dew, rain or hosing may result in damage or removal of the coating. Avoid application on extremely hot and windy days and paint in the shade when possible. Windows and Doors: Use paint sparingly on contact areas to avoid sticking. Move or open within 30 minutes and 2 to 3 times in the first 24 hours. Roofing: painted surface is suitable to collect rainwater after a minimum of I (one) month aging.

Coverage: Approx. 14 – 16 sq. metres per litre.

Thinning: Up to 100 ml of clean water per litre for spraying or application to very porous surfaces.

Drying: Touch dry in 30 minutes. Recoat 2 hours on a day of 25ºC and 50% relative humidity, but will be longer in adverse conditions.

Clean Up: Water and detergent. Dried spots can be removed using General Purpose Thinners.

SURFACE PREPARATION

  • Ensure all surfaces are cleaned of dirt, dust, powder, grease, oil, smoke stains, cooking residues, polishes and materials detrimental to the finish and adhesion of the new paints by washing with mineral turps, water and detergent, sugar soap (as appropriate), rinse clean any residues. Sterilise mould or moss with bleach.

  • Fill surface holes with an appropriate filler and sand to match existing surface. Sand all gloss and semi gloss paints to a flat look and remove grayed timber by sanding. Remove flaked, cracked, peeling and poorly adhered unsound paints which should be tested as follows:-

  • Test surface at random by cutting a small cross (X) through the existing paints, apply and press down firmly a piece of sticky tape over the cut, hold the end of the tape and rip off. If the paint is removed, check in other areas. Paints consistently failing test or if in any doubt to their adhesion, should be completely removed.

New Timber (tannin-rich): Apply one coat of Brinlay Oil based Wood Primer, allow 24 hours drying. Apply one coat of Sunguard 100% Acrylic Undercoat Sealer, followed by two coats of selected Sunguard finish.

New Timber (no tannin): Brinlay Paints recommend when using Sunguard Gloss, that Sunguard 100% Acrylic Undercoat Sealer be used prior to top coats to obtain maximum grain filling, a smoother film and better gloss.

New, Unpainted Steel, Wrought Iron: Remove all rust by scraping, sanding or apply a rust remover. Apply two coats of Brinlay Oil based General Metal Primer, allow 16 hours between coats, then after 16 hours drying, apply two coats of selected Sunguard finish.

New, Unpainted Galvanised Iron or Zincalume: Apply Brinlay Galvanised Zincalume Acrylic Primer, allow 2 hours drying and apply two coats of selected Sunguard finish.
