5 Star 100% Flat Acrylic

5 Star 100% Flat Acrylic

Brinlay Premium Flat 100% Acrylic finish is a durable and washable paint where an elegant flat finish is required. It is ideal for use in dining rooms, lounge rooms and bedrooms. Most scuff marks and stains can be removed with a damp cloth after allowing a 7 day period for curing to a hard finish.
100% Flat Acrylic can also be used as an exterior finish outside, however, Brinlay’s Sunguard Low Lustre will have better mould resistant properties, should this be required.

Timber, masonry, bricks, concrete, fibro, gyprock, building boards, cement, metal, galvanised iron and zincalume. Primer or Undercoat is required on bare surfaces, including galvanised iron, zincalume and new timber containing tannin rich deposits.

Gloss Selection Guide

Colour: A full range of colours.

Application: Stir well with a broad paddle. Brush, roller or spray. Provide adequate ventilation. Temperature should be above 10ºC. Early exposure to steam, overnight dew, rain or hosing may result in damage or removal of the coating. Avoid application on extremely hot and windy days and paint in the shade when possible.

Coverage: Approx. 14 – 16 sq. metres per litre.

Thinning: Up to 100 ml of clean water per litre for spraying or application to very porous surfaces.

Drying: Touch dry in 30 minutes. Recoat 2 hours on a day of 25ºC and 50% relative humidity, but will be longer in adverse conditions.

Clean Up: Water and detergent. Dried spots can be removed using General Purpose Thinners.

  • Ensure all surfaces are cleaned of dirt, dust, powder, grease, oil, smoke stains, cooking residues, polishes and materials detrimental to the finish and adhesion of the new paints by washing with mineral turps, water and detergent, sugar soap (as appropriate), rinse clean any residues. Sterilise mould or moss with bleach.
  • Fill surface holes with an appropriate filler and sand to match existing surface. Sand all gloss and semi gloss paints to a flat look and remove grayed timber by sanding. Remove flaked, cracked, peeling and poorly adhered unsound paints which should be tested as follows:-
  • Test surface at random by cutting a small cross (X) through the existing paints, apply and press down firmly a piece of sticky tape over the cut, hold the end of the tape and rip off. If the paint is removed, check in other areas. Paints consistently failing test or if in any doubt to their adhesion, should be completely removed

New Timber (tannin-rich): Apply one coat of Brinlay Oil based Wood Primer, allow 24 hours drying. Apply one coat of 100% Acrylic Undercoat Sealer, followed by two coats of 100% Flat.

New, Unpainted Steel, Wrought Iron: Remove all rust by scraping, sanding or apply a rust remover. Apply two coats of Brinlay Oil based General Metal Primer, allow 16 hours between coats, then after 16 hours drying, apply two coats of 100% Flat.

New, Unpainted Galvanised Iron or Zincalume: Apply Brinlay Galvanised Zincalume Acrylic Primer, allow 2 hours drying and apply two coats of 100% Flat.
